Kaens posted the following guide:
If you put any of the old 'toys' that are not characters (e.g. boosts, weapons, bonus levels) on the portal they will unlock Legendary treasures. Use RT to place them, LT to pick the up. I placed about 10 of them at the same time, then went nuts hitting everything.
