It's been a looong time since I wrote a GTN Insider Blog.

I was just playing L4D in order to sate the shit feeling I had after my Crysis Purchase was rejected because Steam seems to think because I'm in Switzerland right now, it must mean that I live there and that in no way can I be studying or on holiday.

Yippee.

But still, L4D is keeping me occupied. Except for one thing. It's too fast paced. I remember RE:Survivor, and THAT was what a FPS with Zombies should be like. Scrambling for ammo and saving it... blowing their heads off with accurate potshots and then running to escape a licker or a hunter.

L4D had the potential to be both Exciting as raping a pissed off panda AND being Bat shit terrifying.

The only tense moments are when you hear a witch. You fall into a reverent silence and look around, being careful not to accidentally look her in the eye for a fraction of a second too long.

If they made character movement a bit slower, same for gun action and reloading, not only would the game have a more realistic, gritty feeling, but it would make it more tense. A limited sprint function is more like it too. Regeneration may or may not work, but depending on how it's done, it may do well in L4D.

And running Zombies? C'mon. My sister was so psyched about this. Then she saw running Zombies and she went, "That' lame. This may as well be Attack of the Hobos."

In that respect I agree with her.

Anyway, this isn't a L4D review. IT's just a random rant. HL2 finally decided to work on my computer.

This is after whole legion of tries and eventually calling Steam and getting pissed at them. Now I'm playing again as Dr Freeman. Who should have gone to specsavers. Back from the days where video game men looked like geeks.

Nice.

Makes it seem like I could save Black Mesa too. All I need is an Anomalous Materials degree from M.I.T, and I'm set. I don't have to be sexy, like Lara Croft, or boast gravity defying hair like Cloud. I could have terrible specs and not know how to use a shaver.

I miss the old game era sometimes. But more often then not, I'm gaping in awe at the new generation. MGS4, while not a 360 game, was jawdroppingly good.

Oblivion. Now THAT is sexual. I'm still playing it again, and again, and again.

Man... Since I was a child, I loved Zombie Movies. But only in games could they effectively and realistically show a Zombie's head being blown off.

RE5, same as RE4 and it's Las Plagas horse crap. Give me the T virus any day. If the RE film franchise turned to games, or even if they remade Resi Two and Three, I would feverishly pick them up and unleash Hell on Raccoon City.

There has yet to be a game that realistically hits all my buttons when it comes to Zombies.

The old RE games are the best in terms of Zombieness. L4D is the best in terms of Weapons and the fact that it's a FPS!!

Combine the concepts, and BAM. You have something that kicks major ass.

Survival Horror kicks the hell out of Survival Action. Because it's more realistic. Three Zombies walking down a hall. Not FIFTY. Three.

They see you. You have an M4 and one mag, and a pistol with two mags.

You use the pistol, right? BEcause Ammo for an assault rifle would be scarce in a city unless you found a police van that had been eaten to shit. That kind of realistic thinking is destroyed in L4D.

Sorry, in a generally moody attitude.

Loving HL2 again though.

Why not give me your views on Survival Horror and new games like L4D? Tell me if anything in this Blog hit a spot and you'd like to mention your own point of view!

So I was browsing the interwebs today and I stumbled upon this website, Once Upon a Win. Came across some gems which really brings back the golden ages of childhood in the '90s. Here for starters, anyone remember this song being played during the Big Red commercials?

How about Beakman's World? Yeah, probably the first time you thought about that show this decade, right?

And how about Dave Thomas from the Wendy's commercials?

And totally tubularastic Clarissa Explains it All on Nickelodeon? Yes, I feel freakin' old now.

Ladies, Gentlemen and Blank Planet. I jest.

: P

This is now the second issue of the GTN insider... well... my one at least. Billy and Hywel have kindly given their two cents in their own form. Thanks guys.

Thought I'd do it now as we're approaching the 1st Anniversary of GamerTag Nation! This is a big occasion.

Now for something a lot of you didn't know. A little history lesson.

We turned from a small, insignificant regular style forum at the start to a resource that LIVE Gamers look at with enjoyment, sometimes even awe. I know I do. It took a HUGE amount of code to make something like GTN's Archive and Directory connectable with XBOX LIVE. But in the end, my man Eric did it. It was still not fully functional when I joined back beginning of last year.

I left my position as Social Administrator of Final Fantasy Republic (FFR) back in the beginning of 2008. FFR was another project Eric had created when he was just a youngun in 2001. It flourished like MAD. I'm proud to say I was amongst the first 250 members of a forum who's membership grew to above 14,000 in it's prime.

I remember moving from FFR to AO, which was another project Eric had been starting on. A MMORPG. But, the plans fell through for various reasons, and GTN came forth from the ashes, like a phoenix. It was a confusing time for me and a lot of the FFR vets, as we did not know what Eric had planned. But man, we weren't expecting THIS!

Why am I telling you all this?

Well... it seems only right for members in this forum to get some idea of where GTN stems from, and where the history is for many of the members who are here, like OT and Blank Planet, who came with me from FFR to this place with my invite.

FFR, a forum that won vB Board of the Month many times over, to a resource that has already won it TWICE in it's first year.

This isn't a forum. When people ask me, "This site of yours. What would you like to describe it as?" I usually compare it to Facebook for Gamers. But at the same time, it's not. It's different. A social network for Gamers, exclusively made by gamers and maintained by Gamers. My friend Billy (Blank), he's one of my best friend in RL, but even then, I wouldn't have made him staff if not for his dedication. Me and Eric were planning on messaging each other the SAME DAY regarding his promotion due to his tireless work. The situation's similar for OT. He has shown again and again that we can rely on him. Such effort is what is needed. A real care and love, that can make this place have all the connectivity it can.

Each member can upload photos, blogs, whatever they want and make this place as personalised and info rich as they want. List their sites, synch their Gamertags, and most of all, have the time of their lives.

Even One year on, we're still small. If we were to look at it, so far, it's a blessing. We can develop, and new members can contribute and enjoy themselves without worrying about a flood. It also makes life easier for Eric, who works tirelessly to make this place top notch. Fair enough, I'm the Social Administrator, but in the end, Eric worries about EVERYTHING, and nothing I say will change that. Not even happy pills! o_O

In a very real way, the anniversary of GTN is like the celebration of a child's birthday for my buddy. We can celebrate a damn good year, and toast to many more!

Thank you, all our staff, whether Community or Gaming.

And of course,

Thank you to all our members. We turn one this year, and hope to keep serving all of you well.

All of this hard work has been for you.

So I've just finished Mirror's Edge, what a brilliant game!

Because I'm too lazy right now to write up a review as new member (and close friend of mine) Nosferotica has written up a review of it allready, that has just about my point of view on the game, I don't see why I should.

You can check that out here

Hopefully they'll be something more interesting in the next post for GTN Insider for me, but I honestly can't think of anything to tell you lot!

But what I can say is, there might be something very interesting coming up in the next few weeks...

So let's see where 2009 is leading us in general.

We have some DLC content on 360 (Fallout 3, Halo, GTA4). Theres also Halo Wars to look forward to and if I'm not mistaken is made by the same team that Made AoE. No real info on any new exclusives as of yet but we are expecting news on Mass Effect 2. Theres an SE game called Star Ocean coming to 360 so if you need a JRPG you may want to give that a look (if it doesnt turn out awful). We'll just have to wait for the game conventions to see what MS is coming up with.

For PS3 we have Killzone 2 out late Feburary, Uncharted 2 out late 2009 and possibly a new IP called Heavy Rain that is being made by the team that gave us Indigo Prophecy/Farenhieght.

PC could possibly receive the first dose of Starcraft2, theres a new pack for Red Alert 3 due out soon. The Sims 3 has been delayeduntil June and a Star Wars MMO is on the horizon.

Call of Duty will also be returning to Modern Warfare late this year.

Overall this year is shaping up great already.

It's been overdue, so here's my first Blog on GTN. Yeah. This is going to be wild.

Or not.

Anyway, it's been a good while since I first joined GTN as Social Admin, and so far so good it seems. I think my blog should be more regular, as this way, people not on Staff will be able to get some news that may affect them, or any good news about the forum.

First piece of good news. GTN has just won a Board of the Month Award at vB Setup, which makes this our second time in a year. A lot of boards even screw up their first chance and never get another, so this shows all the work my mate Eric has been doing is really fantastic.

I can't say much, as I suck at code, but I'm sure he's as happy as hell with the result, and what I can say is, so am I. I have pride in GTN, and all it's members. After all, a forum is just an empty room without members.

You're all thinkin, "Yeah, yeah, sound like soviet propaganda"

Fair enough, but I'm being honest. When I'm in a project, I'm in for the long run. The aim of this place is for members to have the time of their lives. I know we have a long way to go, but we're doin our best.

If no one reads this, I'm talking to myself. But It's good to be honest and lay your thoughts out sometimes, as online, it's hard to judge people. To a lot of folks, I'm just a talking avatar. I just hope people try and get to know the real me and appreciate me for who I am. I'll do the same for as many members as I can, as I'm sure the majority of staff will also do.

For blog number one, it's me, Killak, signing off.

I honestly thought that Underworld was what the TR games needed. They had great marketing, a new model who was actually quite an accurate portrayal of Lara and a pleasing demo....and the game is well made too. Graphics, sound and gameplay are all very fluid.

I admit that it came out during the hectic releases of new (and better) games but in all fairness Underowlrd holds up. It goes back to raiding tombs (as the title suggests) unlike AoD where you start of in France and end up in some kind of murder mystery. However the team wasnt able to complete the trilogy (it would have taken another 5 years for the next one)as the game was sold off so maybe if all three had come out we may have understood...although not likely.

And now theres all this "female friendly" and hoping to transform TR like Casino Royal did to Bond and Begins to Batman talk. In my view this won't work. As much as it pains me to say it....I think TR should be laid to rest. It redefined a genre but it's time for it to go.

I have to say that they are both very equal in GP. Both games made by different companies but still equally unnoticable as far as major changes. With CODWAW being set in WW2 is the only major difference. Whats up with this??
