Lockpicking is essentially the same as in Skyrim, except you use Bobby Pins in Fallout instead of proper Lockpicks. If you’re not familiar with the mechanic, the in-game tutorial explains it well.

The main thing you need to pay attention to is the difficulty of the lock. Very Easy locks can be unlocked by any player, but other locks require your Lockpick skill to be at a certain level. Easy locks need a Lockpick skill of 25+, Normal need 50+, Hard 75+ and Very Hard locks can’t be opened unless you have a perfect 100.

Realistically, you’ll need a Lockpick skill of 25 (preferably 50) to unlock this as Very Easy locks are rare. You can temporarily boost your Lockpicking skill by 10 (or 20 if you have the Comprehension perk) by using a Locksmith’s Reader magazine. You can also *permanently* increase your Lockpick skill by 3 (or 4 with Comprehension) by collecting and using a Tumblers Today skill book.
