If starting from scratch you'll need to craft a workbench to make tools. A workbench requires 4 planks of any type of wood.

Getting wood should be obvious, but if not go punch the nearest tree, this will not only give you an achievement but will also give you "raw" wood and each "raw' wood block will make four planks.

The tools you need to craft are: an axe, a hoe, a mining pick and a shovel

tools require 1-3 wood planks and 2 sticks each all together it's about 9 planks and 8 sticks

so

Go to your workbench and in your tabs find the option to craft some sticks and then do so crafting at least two, now go to the tools tab and find your tools....craft one of each and BAM! Achievement unlocked.

The achievements are grouped per update, although if you are somewhat familiar with the game, just hop into the world and do the achievements without the help of a text guide. Please let me know if you need any help.
