Photon Blast is an ability you need to unlock on your Mag, feeding it unwanted items/increasing their support levels. After it reaches Level 40, your Mag will gain a random ability, though I recommend giving a visit to the EX-Cube exchange shop and buying one of the Troy PB Devices (each costs 8 EX-Cubes, but they come quite frequently) for the 'An Extremely Enraged Mag' achievement, which requires you trigger an Illios-type Photon Blast (Illios was translated to Troy in-game, for some reason). Then you have to edit your sub-palette and put the Photon Blast on it, load up a quest, kill some enemies and once it's available, use the Photon Blast.
