The first Halo is my favorite, coz that was the one that got me awe struck from it, and it was the one that game the most challenge in single player, and not just on Legendary...

Halo 3 is hands down the best, no debate there.

Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. I liked the feature where you could switch the graphics from the original to HD.
It's actually Reach, for me. It felt like it had the most content, and I spent a lot of time in Forge as well.
CE is a close second due to the hours of co-op, multiple easter eggs, and 16-player LAN parties.
Wow this is hard. The first got me into the franchise and loved (since I didn't care much for fps at the time) but the third was really good and as OT said Reach had a lot of content, really love to say Halo 5 will be the best but will be waiting (preordered) to see.
Halo 3. Bought my x360 so I could get NHL08, since they weren't making it for the original Xbox, and my friends all bought H3 at the same time and talked me into picking it up. Was really my introduction to FPS games on consoles, since I usually only played them on PC. And we played it A LOT. Smile

Halo: CE. It was the best developed game. Best Story, Great Gameplay, Phenomenal Iconic Score, and it was the reason I owned an Xbox. I actually had the game before I had the console. Halo has been on a slow decline ever since. If I had to rate all the games this would be it listed best to worst:

Halo Combat Evolved
Halo 3: ODST
Halo Reach
Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary
Halo 2
Halo 2 PC (Haven't Played)
Halo 3
Halo Wars (Haven't Played)
Halo: Spartan Assault (Haven't Played)
Halo: Spartan Strike (Haven't Played)
Halo 4
Halo 5 (Will not be playing it)
H2 and H3 were my favs by a long shot, mp-wise. Everything post-H3 was filled with novelty garbage that I hated with a passion. There are a million 'deep' games out there and Halo was the one that was absolutely solid because of it's lack of tacked-on crapola. It was you and your weapon vs your buddy and his weapon. H3 added pickups like bubble shield and such, and was more fun to play without that stuff, but it was hands down the most balanced of the bunch. BRs everywhere and nothing was really overpowered...even vehicles became much less of a factor thanks to the laser.

H2 was fun too but it was so open to network manipulation and glitch manipulation that it could be pretty bad at times. No matter how bad it got though, it was still better than the more recent crap they produced. It doesn't happen often but there are some instances where vanilla ice cream really is the tastiest.

Halo 2 PC can not be that much different then the console version. So I gave it the benefit of the doubt

I hated Halo 4 and I don't see Halo Wars being more fun then the the halo games above it.

Spartan Strike & Assault are post Bungie and not full retail games so I can't see them being better then everything above it, but anything is better then Halo 4 so that is where they reside on my list.

Everything I have seen about Halo 5 is like a bad movie trailer, making it a movie you would wait and stream on Netflix before going to the theater to watch. It is looking so bad that I don't care to play it. That is a long way from me buying Halo: CE before I even had a console to play the game. I don't see them redeeming the franchise, they are just going to pump out games and milk the cow. So i placed it at the bottom

But, what you really said is, you can't, but did anyway.

I don't really enjoy Halo, and haven't played half of them, but, I still wouldn't rank them, other than the ones I actually played. (And I found Halo 2 PC and Halo 2 to be very different)
Although I enjoyed Halo Wars, I dislike that you typically use all of your military for one unit type and then play rock-paper-scissors. Forcing build locations to designated spots is also pretty limiting, and then they top it off with an unrealistic achievement for any completionists out there. I understand why it wouldn't be highly appreciated.

I'm surprised there isn't more love for Halo 2. It impacted the future of online lobbies and matchmaking, not to mention the way it shaped peoples' friend list and social circles.
Gotta go with the original. Many a night were spent playing LAN parties back in the college days.
