Does anyone know where I can get a good selection of the GFWL games on disc? I am wanting to add to my hard collection, and wanted to query the folks here - you all seem knowledgeable about it Big Grin

Secondly, for the digital only versions, can I get them through Steam?
1. eBay
2. Nope, even games on steam have had the cheevos patched out

I use Amazon but there are a limited number of copies now. I also get stuck installing some games when the release date check fails.:deranged:
I'll look and see what I have that was not gotten rid of already. It may be just down to Arkham Asylum and Halo 2.

Also, not all GFWL supported games on Steam have had the GFWL client patched out. Many have, but not all.

I say this, because Fallout 3 (PC), which just sold as part of the Fallout Anthology in the collectible Mini Nuke, was purchased by me. All 5 games included in this bundle are Steam Games. There is a giant warning/disclaimer when you open the packaging that Fallout 3 has NOT been updated for Windows 8/8.1/10, and requires the free (and still available) GFWL Marketplace Client and a free Xbox Live account. Installation of FO3 via Steam does launch the downloader for the GFWL Marketplace Client, which allows you to log in to Live, and see/redownload previous purchases. And, you may still make in-game purchases (I cannot buy the DLC for FO3 from my PC, but, I can buy it in the game client menus).

Depending on the game, you may have to do some work to get everything running properly, as FO3 was never intended to run on a Surface Pro, I had to make some .dll file adjustments to make it realize the video card on the device was more than adequate. But, there are plenty of helpful guides out there.
I've seen copies of GFWL games at Half Price eBooks
I bought them on Ebay. I wanted new because of the stupid GFWL code that wouldn't always work on different games.

I just bought: 'Dead Rising 2: Off the Record - PC' by Capcom via @amazon... the last copy

This game has "zero day piracy protection" When you load the game it wants to verify the release date of the game, but the verification server is not working. There's no option to play with an offline profile either. Perhaps the server will come back up or someone will have a solution.

Now if you want to play the games you should do a little more research. I could not get GFWL to work on windows 10, so I rolled back to windows 8.1 (where I know GFWL works)

There is some info here http://www.trueachievements.com/foru...spx?tid=746640
and a very good list here regarding CD keys and activation http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/List_of...#Legacy_Titles

I also tried uninstalling the GWFL marketplace and client then reinstalling and that didn't help.

I performed an upgrade to windows 10 from windows 8.1. Maybe that had something to do with it. Perhaps a fresh install of windows 10 would provide better results. At least this time MS provided a way to roll back the operating system. It's the same old story with MS. Every upgrade breaks something. Its been happening since windows 98. You'd think I would have learned my lesson by now.

Before installing windows 8 I was still using windows xp. I would have stayed with that, but I needed the improvements a new MS OS will provide such as support for 64 bit architecture, more RAM, and bigger hard drives.

Let's see, 5 seconds and here is the only GFWL file I ave installed on SIX Windows 10 machines and it works on all of them:

I'm proud of you, but that doesn't help me. I don't have the patience to trouble shoot MS problems. If MS was proactive they would have a step by step guide somewhere detailing how to install GFWL on windows 8 windows 10. Instead you have to search the web for a solution that someone discovered on their own. I highly doubt the average user which is probably 95% of MS's user base would have any clue on how to do that and just give up.

Also like I said earlier games with the "zero day piracy protection" can not be activated because that server is down and MS has no guidance on it and no answers as to when it will be back up.

MS offered a unified platform, it did not take off, and individual companies cut their losses and walked away. If a game requires server-side authentication from a publisher, and that publisher shut down the server, that is on the publisher, so, sounds like a Capcom problem. Why would Microsoft be expected to tell you how to fix a Capcom issue?
The MS link only provides the GFWL client. Doesn't provide any instructions on running in compatibility mode or installing as administrator. Those two steps will go over at least 95% of MS users head.

I don't know why you love being so argumentative. Are you being paid by MS or something ? Your tone is extremely rude and uncalled for. I'm sure it has turned many people away from this site and the old 360voice. You are not helping anything with your attitude. That is one of the benefits of being anonymous I guess.

BTW, zero day piracy protection was created by MS and is supported by them. It connects thru the GFWL application. It's completely their responsibility.
