What was the first gaming site you made a profile on? Mine was Gamespy.com back in 1999. The site was great because it had a client you could put on your desktop. I was into playing two main games that year, Heavy Gear 2 and Operation Flashpoint. It was really one of the first sites to bring together a community of gamers from multiple games.

Back then I was playing on a PC, with 128 MB Ram, no mic (you had to type everything out to your team, and 56k dial up on AOL.

GameSpot was the one I remember first using, sometime between 1996 and 1998, to look up when games would be coming out.
Honestly, can't remember but it had to be GameSpot, I still have an open account there under my original GT before I changed it. Same account as now just renamed it. Used to try for.the badges there, then I was turned onto 360voice and bounced between the two until I had a pretty bad experience with one of the mods over at GS then I left and have only ever checked in a few times over as many years. That's why try my best to keep things smooth over here, but I also know people are different and I keep an open mind. Things can get taken out of context, quickly escalating a bad situation to worse.

Definitely was Gamespot for me. For a time I was a mod there (but I doubt it was me you had a run in with, b8tingu!) That place is not what it was anymore.
Bungie.net, then forgehub.com, and then GTN.

I am however trying to get a game trading site going. If you would like more info you can e-mail me at

What I got was a huge letter telling me how much of prick I was.... So I blogged about it on the site after that and got me suspended for week and my blog was removed. That was pretty much the last time I went back. You know come to think of it I think I did ask to have my account removed, because I just went back to check and I couldn't find anything. Meh. I soon found other sites that were better and now I have a true home. If you were a Mod back then did you use this name? I doubt it was you too I can't even remember who it was and I really don't care.

I avoid all of the large forums like the plague, even if I use the site for other things. For example, I use TA daily but after reading so many assholish posts, I wouldn't post there if my life depended on it. I'm always drawn to the smaller, more tight-knit communities....here, SG, 360v (rip), etc. I've been an active member of SG since Feb 2006, almost a decade, and that's mostly because it's a fairly small group and douchebaggery is usually stomped out pretty quick. Since this site is similar in that regard, I could easily see me hanging around here just as long.

I'm also drawn to communities that discuss more than games, even though that's the main topic. It's nice to stray off into other conversations now and then...TV, movies, family, whatever.

I'm not sure which one I joined first, maybe Gamespot. There have been quite a few that I have joined, though like Steelhead, I usually don't get into the forums much if at all on some of them. This site is one of those few that I've been somewhat active in the forums; the first being the sister site of 360 Voice, GamerDNA, which when it was populated with users was quite fun -- then people gradually started leaving until I was one of the last active posters before the site was bought by Crispy Gamer, who really let the site die off completely before attempting to resurrect it; I've rarely been back there since, except to occasionally clear the site notifications that have piled up.

P.S. This marks the 300th post I've made in the forums.
gamespot for me as well think i joined it when it 1st started round 93 or 94
