There is no question music games have influenced the gaming scene in a big way, and that influence continues to grow (much like the playlists) by the week. I'm not a fan of the genre, but even I can hold my own with a guitar on Normal difficulty. It has become practically unavoidable.

This fall season is expanding the music genre even more with the release of Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero: World Tour. However, gamers like us are left with a tough choice: do we pick the series that introduced band gameplay, or do we go with the pioneers of instrument-based games on consoles? Of course, choosing both would probably be ideal, but then again, just skipping the games altogether may be the easiest of all. What do you think?
Rock Band 2 because GH:WT is destined to be just as shit as GH:3 was.

NOTE: 300th post.

at the moment neither. both are overpriced and the tracks in the box don't appeal. plus DLC is an issue as that costs even more and at the end of the day its not worth it for a game thats meant to be fun for friends and stuff. i mean for just £50 more I could just get a wii and at least that doesnt take up so much space.

i would only get one when they sort all the kinks out like songs workign on either one (never gonna happen anyway), instruments comapatable with each game (again...probably no time soon) and the absolute guarentee that songs will carry over to the sequel (is that happening now?). But even with all of that theres still the starting price for it all although if its your second i suppose it doesnt matter.

I haven't made an official selection just yet. While I have Rock Band 2 coming in the mail for me, I'd like to think that Guitar Hero: World Tour would fit into my budget. World Tour offers a mode which allows for you to create your own songs, something Rock Band 2 doesn't have. Across from that, I've always found Guitar Hero games to be much easier to play on guitar. Who knows what I'm going to do, really.

For now, it's Rock Band 2 only. Having all of the instruments from the first installment of Rock Band helped save me a lot of money so getting a hold of Rock Band 2 wasn't too much of a hit to the wallet.

And also, You never buy a game over one reason, Rock Band 2 has the Drum Trainer, which GH:WT doesn't, but it's not the main reason I'm buying RB2 instead of it. I much prefer the setlist for RB2 than GH:WT.

You're right, Tenacious D's "Master Exploder" is one hell of a song. Rock Band 2 gives my vote for a better setlist, though it's not by much. GH:WT has some good ones too!

Rock Band is getting a portablle drumkit....useful for me if i was ever going to get it. im guessing it may work with the new GH but doubt it. I was gonna say the GH drums look better until i searched for rock band 2. looks much better than the first...they werent drums:grin:

That'd prevent you from playing Rhythm games.

i would say both, only because there are some tracks on GH i'd want to try, and creating songs sounds amusing too. however, i'd probably end up sticking with RB2.
Ive said it before i believe in one of the rock band threads but anyways, I was in a car accident.` I was on hit by one car and was then hit by other car coming the opposite direction which has left me with quite a bit of nerve damage in my arms and hands and most of my body.. My hands at them kind of games seems to react slow.
Painful. I got slammed by a car around four months ago and that still makes my internal organs spasm. But you've been hit by TWO?! You sure are a sturdy one. No wonder your nerves are fried! Sorry I asked.
