Lost Planet

Classic!

I purchased Quake 4 from Gamestop and was pretty disappointed! So I brought the game back the next day, and traded it for Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. When I first tried the game, I really didn't like it. I played it for 30 minutes and turned it off. I decided to try the game the next day, and discovered that this is a good game. The gameplay is very different from other shooter games. Here is my break down:

Story 8/10
The story consists of 11 missions. The missions themselves are not that long, and are very fast paced due to the thermal suit count down. The story line itself is pretty good. It's a basically a Japanese Anime movie when it comes down to the cutscenes. Your mission is to basically help make this lost planet, inhabitable for humans.

Weapons 7/10
There are not many weapons in the game, but they are decently fun to use. There is no upgrade ability on the weapons, so what you find is what you get.

AI Enemy 6/10
Most of the enemy will remind you of Starship Troopers. They're bugs! An over done idea, but done well in this game. You can shoot limbs off or just completely demolish the alien insects.

Gameplay 9/10
Pretty unique style of play. Fast paced and fun; the gameplay is very fluid. The Thermal Suit basically keeps you alive in the extreme cold climate of the Lost Planet. You start each level at 999 thermal units. It continually counts down throughout each level. If it reaches 0, you will die. You can recharge the suit by killing enemies, destroying enemies spawn points, or finding posts. The missions are extremely fun with large amount of fire fight action! You can control different mechs (VS suits).

Multiplayer ?/10
I have no idea. I haven't played the multiplayer.

Replay Ability 7/10
You maybe have to play through the campaign 3-5 times to get all the achievements, but after that, I don't see you ever picking this game up again. Due to the fact is basically a late 2006 game, I can see this game becoming a bit repetitive and boring after a few playthroughs. It is no Gears of War 2. If you played the game on normal from mission one till the end of the last mission straight through, The game would probably take you about 4-5 hours, maybe less. You could very well just run through the levels straight to the end and battle the bosses. That may take it down to about 3 hours.

Achievements 9/10
The basic beat the level achievements aren't worth all that much TA ratio wise, but are very easy to get. The sub achievements are a bit harder and involve collecting things in levels. This can be difficult considering you are pretty much timed in each level. There are multiplayer achievements in this game. So if you don't plan on playing the multiplayer, then don't plan on 100%ing this game. Beating the game on Extreme mode will net you over 1000 TA points for the achievement. But this is beyond difficult! Hence why it is worth so much.

Purchase
I purchased this game used for $9.99 from Gamestop. The game was released in the US in January or 2007. The game was made a platinum hit by Microsoft. It isn't a bad game, but not sure of the price tag. $9.99 for a used, basically 3 year old game? I would definitely recommend the game, but would like to see used more around $6.99. All in all, I am pleased with my purchase.

I you wanna try something different, then I recommend this game.

  • So I went to Gamestop and traded in Oblivion and Mass Effect. I walked around the store trying to come up with a game I could trade for and reluctantly grabbed this game. Let me tell you, this is by far one of the best games for the 360. This game will blow you away with its' graphics and gameplay. The setting is a futuristic shooter-thriller style game. ...

  • I just played this game and it actually a good online game. I was surprised to find it came out spring of last year. I think the major thing that hurt this game is the graphics aren't all that impressive for last year. I would compare them to original xbox graphics (a little exaggerated lol!). I'm going to breakdown the game into bullets: Graphics: 6 out of 10 ...

  • Aight lets start with the first fact, "I'm a huge Star Trek fan...not a Trekkie...but huge fan!" (IF YOU ARE A TREKKIE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE YOU BUY THIS GAME) Now I've played every Star Trek game from the first computer one that was less than a Megabyte in size, to the NES and Gameboy/Gamegear, to Star Trek Armada and this one. I can go on forever on a list of Star...
