Marvel Ultimate Alliance (Xbox 360)

More of an exercise in fan service than an actual good game.

MUA definitely has its charm. With many Marvel characters to choose from and plenty of lore to explore, any Marvel fan will enjoy this game to some extent. That being said, MUA suffers from a lot of the problems that movie tie-in games suffer from despite not being one. Glitches, while not rampant, can lock you out of achievements and require significant working around to fix. Controls can be clunky, and gameplay gets very repetitive very quickly. The voice acting is... just... awful, and the story is pretty bland. This game was how I got my "Better late than never" badge here on the site, and there's a very good reason for that.

It's not a total loss of a game, and there IS so much lore and comic book easter eggery (declaring that a word right here, right now) that it's enjoyable despite being a pretty meh game.

Now that you can get a digital copy of this game, I'd say the odds are 50/50 whether or not it would be worth getting. Prior to the digital release, the physical gold edition of the game (which included the dlc characters no longer available as dlc) was rare enough that it cost as much as a full, new, retail Xbox One game, and in that scenario, my answer would have been a resounding no in terms of whether or not it was worth it. Now? If you're a Marvel fan, sure. Go for it. If not? I'd maybe skip this one.
