The Darkness

(untitled review)

What made me excited for this game is that it was made by the people who were involved with the Riddick game on Xbox and that was pure awesomeness and The Darkness is just as good.

You play as a 21 year old hitman for the mafia. Problem is that your uncle thinks you are getting to far ahead and decides to have you killed. You don't like that. So you murder your way through cops, gangsters, druggies alike to find your uncle and take him and his corrupt family down.

Pretty soon after the inital fight you gain control of "The Drakness", a strange demonic force...or does it control you? You decide as you play on...Anyway there are four abilities that you unlock as you play through the game and each one can help you in some way. You can also summon minions to help you battle your way through the game but they aren't useful until the fina showdown when you get overwhelmed.

This is one shooter that looks, feels and tells great. Theres decent desgin that's convincing, no hud taking up the screen, interesting characters and locations. It all adds to a great atmosphere and is still great to play today even with all the 2008 titles out. Throughout the game you will also discover the origins of The Drakness as you travel to an alternate WW1 area. Normally I hate stuff like this but it's done quite well and draws you in even mre as you learn about the mysterious demon thats taken you over.

The action is pretty standard and sometimes you may feel as if the enemies can take a bit more than you but its very hectic and with all your powers its fun to play through. But theres so much that's done well here that its hard to complain about the small things. Even after a year and a price drop this game is still worth a buy.

  • Battlefield is a name that's pretty familiar to most, if not all PC gamers. The consoles got two Modern Combat titles, which were slated by most people for some reason even though I thought it was great. Then there was Bad Company, and no-one was really sure what was going on. It had a real SP mode, some MP games even though the classic conquest game-type was to be added via DLC. Needless to...

  • Resident Evil is one of the most historic Survival Horror franchises. It managed to provide tense gameplay and have a very deep story at the same time. Over the years we have seen titles on many consoles, have a brief online following (Outbreak), and G Con spinoff (Dead Aim) and some FPS remakes (Survivor). RE4 was a major...

  • So when the first trailer for this game was released everyone was all “whhooaahh!!!” Then a demo came out and people were still excited. Then the game came out. While it was fresh and exciting it also has its shortcomings. The new running mechanic was really fun outside until you found out that you were going the wrong way and that combo of awesome moves was wasted. Then it went inside and...

  • Fallout3 is pretty much Bethesda trying to make some cash for the run up to TES5 or the teased TESMMO. Let me explain. Every time I turn on this game I get reminded about how much better and prettier Oblivion is. The graphics were amazing, the world was immersive and everything was...better. I know it’s bad to compare the two but they are just both so alike. Same controls, same set up, same...

  • Gears of War was one of the first major new IPs for the 360. It came out in 2006 and topped Halo 2 on XBL. Just about 2 years on we have Gears of War 2. When Cliffy B said it would be bigger and more badass he was right. Everything in the game has been turned up. The fights are more detailed and on a larger scale, graphics and sound have been improved and you do feel as if you are in the middle...
