Burnout Paradise

(untitled review)

I remember that Burnout was the third game i got with my PS2. It was a fun game, i made some pretty nifty crash vids and Burnout 2 was even better. Finally 3 came out but I never got round to 4.

Here we have Paradise. Well....If only. Burnout is still a racing game even though there's no driver which must mean that all humans have been killed as cars seem to be the only thing in this city called Paradise City and is even accompanied by that awful Guns n Roses song. Which brings me to mention that Atomica is still alive. And yes, he does insist on dropping useless info.

It's completely free roam but what’s the point? I'm stuck in a fudging car! The mini map is too small and complicated as you have to check it all the time to make sure you are actually going the right way and when you do....BAM. Crash. Now I know this is a key part of gamepley...Atomica told me. But it really isn't that fun anymore. Yes there’s a dandy physics engine but even that doesn't sweeten the deal. Mainly because it all just focuses on cars and slow motion isn't as cool as it was when the Matrix came out.

All you do is complete a bunch of races to upgrade you drivers licence so you can then unlock a few new cars which you may have to go and hunt down yourself.

Basically to describe this game i can say - Need For Speed: Most Wanted/Carbon but without the thrill of the cops. In essence its every racer ever made since everdom just in a big city. A city so abandoned its like downtown Pypriat on a sunny day. The graphics are amazing so why not add a few peds into the mix to get some action going? I find it hard to believe that Paradise City is only inhabited by driverless cars. This is 360 and PS3 it shouldnt be beyond the developers to put a driver in a car...nothing fancy but just something there. I also noticed (trademark EA racing game style) that there is only one time and that’s the day. Why not have some fast night time street races?

In the end the full gameplay can be experienced in the demo unless you want to collect cars.

  • Battlefield is a name that's pretty familiar to most, if not all PC gamers. The consoles got two Modern Combat titles, which were slated by most people for some reason even though I thought it was great. Then there was Bad Company, and no-one was really sure what was going on. It had a real SP mode, some MP games even though the classic conquest game-type was to be added via DLC. Needless to...

  • Resident Evil is one of the most historic Survival Horror franchises. It managed to provide tense gameplay and have a very deep story at the same time. Over the years we have seen titles on many consoles, have a brief online following (Outbreak), and G Con spinoff (Dead Aim) and some FPS remakes (Survivor). RE4 was a major...

  • What made me excited for this game is that it was made by the people who were involved with the Riddick game on Xbox and that was pure awesomeness and The Darkness is just as good. You play as a 21 year old hitman for the mafia. Problem is that your uncle thinks you are getting to far ahead and decides to have you killed. You don't like that. So you murder your way through cops, gangsters,...

  • So when the first trailer for this game was released everyone was all “whhooaahh!!!” Then a demo came out and people were still excited. Then the game came out. While it was fresh and exciting it also has its shortcomings. The new running mechanic was really fun outside until you found out that you were going the wrong way and that combo of awesome moves was wasted. Then it went inside and...

  • Fallout3 is pretty much Bethesda trying to make some cash for the run up to TES5 or the teased TESMMO. Let me explain. Every time I turn on this game I get reminded about how much better and prettier Oblivion is. The graphics were amazing, the world was immersive and everything was...better. I know it’s bad to compare the two but they are just both so alike. Same controls, same set up, same...
