Cosmo Run

It's Cosmo Run! Has a pseudo-3D-isometric perspective and it thrives in that sense . . .

Have you ever felt like playing a mobile game on your Windows 10 device like a laptop or desktop? Well, look no further! It's Cosmo Run!

Cosmo Run has simple premise with temporarily addicting gameplay. The object of the game is to guide your cosmic ball through a pathway that has winding turns with stars to collect and an occasional special pathway option for the brave! The game has a pseudo-3D-isometric perspective, which can make the game more challenging as your brain may start to get a little confused when playing for a long stretch. Additionally, the more you progress, the quicker you need to be to react to the constant corners you face, which is easier said than done when your brain starts to turn to mush after a few minutes of playing.

Each turn (click of the mouse or hit of the spacebar) results in 1 point. Each star collected earns 3 points. The goal is to get as high of a score as you can without failing. Luckily, there is a "Save Me" option upon failure that will pick you right back up where you left off is you do happen to fall off the pathway. In order to utilize this nifty feature, you must have stars in your bank. The aforementioned stars you collect add to this total by 1 for each star collected. However, the game will gift you with a bundle of stars (ranging from 30 stars to 60 stars, in my experience) after you complete a game occasionally, not after every game.

There is a multiplayer mode for those who are on a device with multiple inputs (ie: mouse, touch screen, and keyboard). Unfortunately, those with single input-devices like a phone or touch screen tablet cannot partake in the multiplayer mode. The goal is to outlast your opponent. I personally did not utilize this mode for fun (only for the singular achievement tied to it).

One last gameplay feature is a "secret" game at the end of the credits. It's a simple game that has you matching adjacent colors. It's too elementary to gain any real sense of fun after the first 30 seconds, but it's always nice to see developers sneak in a little Easter egg, plus it's needed for an achievement.

As far as achievements go, this game is easy but VERY time-consuming. I have clocked over 400 hours on the game myself (though most of it was idling with the help of a macro). The variety of achievements included in the game is surprisingly high for a game with such a simple concept. A particular achievement references much-lauded TV show LOST. Another requires you to die at 666 points.

Of course there are the expected achievements including: cumulative achievements tied to points, achievements for playing so-many days in a row, playing the game a certain amount of times, and using the "Save Me" feature a number of times. The reason this game takes so long is because you are required to net 200,000 points cumulatively. As I said in the beginning, this is a temporarily addicting game. Unfortunately, the game gets old pretty quickly and is best played in short spurts. The use of the macro limits the time you spend actively playing the game, but it gathers points much more slowly, so pick your poison.

The game was built for short bursts, and it thrives in that sense. However, with extremely tedious achievements paired with gameplay that gets old all too quickly, the game earns a simply average score from me. Thank you for detailed review. Enjoy Smile
