Rent, don't buy!

I have to start by prefacing this with I am not an Adventure Time fan, or even really knew what it was, so if you are then you are likely to have a different opinion that me.

The best part of this game is the charm from the cartoon, which based on the content and jokes I would say targets tweens (8-12 year old), but tries to have nods to adults. I say tries because they are not particularly clever. It feels a lot like when someone says, "see what I did there?". Yeah, we all see, it wasn't funny. I get it, and I acknowledge that was an attempt at a joke, however I am not laughing. Mostly though, very cute characters but not enough to make me watch the cartoon.

Game play was mediocre as well. The puzzles were average at best, but if this is targeting a younger audience they can't be too hard, but I never felt smart for figuring something out. It felt very much like going through the motions. Combat was a similar level, and that definitely felt like going through the motions. There is no point to the combat, other than to break up the monotony, no character progression, just waves of guys at certain points in the story that are unavoidable. This combat is painful and I just wanted to get it over with. You do earn money, but there isn't anything to spend it on and it never gives you more than a dialogue cue as to how you did. "Mathematical!"

So ultimately, this is a quick thousand so worth the few hours, but you will find little enjoyment but fortunately it's over before you hate it. This is a rental if I've ever seen one. Gamefly or Redbox both version and stack the points.

  • I have to admit, I only played this game because I knew it was quick points. That means I had no expectations going in, so they were neither met nor was I disappointed (I mean I went in for the point, I got the points). That said, the game was not good, and I would not play this late at night if you are sleepy. The entire game consists of you...

  • I actually really liked this game. Not enough to rate it higher than it should be, but I enjoyed the art style and traversal. In a way it reminded me of like old Castlevania 2D games minus the action bits. I was keeping a map of the game in my head, remembering how to get from area to area, and there were only a few spots where I was completely lost and didn't know...

  • I usually rant about these 'artsy' experiences, however, this game actually delivers a unique experience. It is a really short game, but I honestly can't think of another game with similar mechanics. You play a young blind girl and the world around you is drawn in based on sound alone. So as you navigate around the world (the story is you chasing down a stray cat you...

  • You know what I hate? Crap games we all are supposed to pretend we like because they are artsy and has a deep message. I watched an interview with one of the developers talking about the control scheme and how it's "..like tying your shoes, both hands work in concert without you having to concentrate on it. That's the feeling we were trying to create." No. No. No. The...

  • I know this game is very very highly rated, and even I'm giving it a four outta of five stars. It's very well made, and has some great touches like replaying levels in collectible mode that others in the genre should copy. However, this was not for me, and I'm going to tell you why, but there will be spoilers so if you don't want to risk it, move on. ...
