Death Stranding

Weaker than the sum of its parts

Great concept, high production value, but ultimately just not that much fun. The story is interesting and conceptually I love the idea of reuniting the USA and players helping each other. Unfortunately, the actual gameplay loop is very tedious and frustrating.

Hideo Kojima games are excellent at giving the player autonomy. He provides the tools to let the player problem solve in interesting and creative ways. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain executed this perfectly. The problem with Death Stranding is that the problems you are solving, how to deliver packages over difficult terrain, aren't enjoyable to perform.

However, I love to see game developers trying new things and I can't wait to see what Kojima comes up with next.
