Porsche's Movie Reviews Ep. 2 - "Ender's Game" and "Bad Grandpa"

A few weeks ago I managed to get out of the house with a great friend of mine who happened to be home on pre-deployment leave (Afghanistan in Dec.) and we decided that one of the things we'd do while he was home was to see a few movies. We ended up watching Bad Grandpa and Ender's Game in a double feature adventure.

We started with Bad Grandpa, which, in hindsight, was probably a bad idea since we found ourselves laughing through Ender's Game while thinking about Dickhouse's latest effort. As far as plot goes, it's fairly simple. A horny old grandpa was commissioned by his daughter to escort her son across the country to be with his dad while she goes to prison. The cast and minimal crew then used normal everyday people as the extras and filmed their reactions to the crazy antics that quickly ensued. And when I say crazy, it is hardly an appropriate adjective for the things they do. If you're humor is not easily offended, then this may be one of the most hilarious films you'll see. There are scenes that borderline insanity, and the real reactions of those who were punked makes it that much more priceless. In fact, as we reached the last few scenes of the film, I found myself laughing so hard, I couldn't breathe! (really? a Mensa member laughing at toilet humor?)

The very last scene may be the funniest thing I have personally seen. Choreographed perfectly and performed effortlessly, the resulting consequences of final prank left me in tears, laughing hard for a good hour.

So, with a hesitant pause, I recommend this farce to anyone who's willing to succumb to toilet humor that is executed flawlessly in the only intention of getting a great laugh.

Now, Ender's Game is a completely different genre. As a youth who had read all of Ender's exploits, I was actually quite looking forward to viewing this film. After we collected ourselves and meandered to the adjoining theater (yes, we paid) we sat towards the back in high expectations of witnessing a childhood fantasy come to life.

Although abrupt and to the point, quickly summing up the first half of the novel in about 30-35 minutes, it was otherwise well presented. Highlights from the novel were examined, and of course the main plot was focused. The subplot of childhood exploitation was also focused on rather heavy, with Han Solo himself heading the "I know a thoroughbred when I see one" charge. Harrison Ford, Ben Kingsley and Octavia Spencer deliver outstanding adult roles in an otherwise adolescent centered film.

We see the growing Asa Butterfield, Haley Steinfeild, and even the very talented Abigail Breslin seduce their assigned roles with ease - they are kids playing kids! My hopes were not dashed in this long-awaited theatrical representation, and the climax is just as rivetting and shocking as it was in the book.If you have not read the books, you'll probably fail to appreciate the subtly that was carefully injected into the production, and if you have, prepare for a condensed version that is still very enjoyable.

I highly recommend Ender's Game because it serves audiences a great sci-fi serving of written history, so perfectly penned by Orson Scott Card, in a single-serving 2+ hour movie size.

Very much worth it, great film. They may have missed a few things concerning the book, but they got the gist of it right, at least I think so.

My stomach was so sore the day after seeing bad grandpa, I have never laughed that hard at a movie in my life! Defiantly not a first date kind of movie, I was lucky enough that the girl im seeing picked it so it was all good, we laughed all night and most of the next day! A must buy when it comes out on disc!

The kid sold it for me. He's great at keeping character - I know it's not a big role, but he handled it rather consistently and made the movie that much more funny.

im a big fan of the jackass series n i dont think johnny knoxville n bad grandpa did justice to the series

the only part i thought was funny was the mishap with the coke machine i had a cousin try that once with a gumball machine lol

Pooping on the wall in the diner was pretty funny...
