I found this product while browsing ebay. It's also available on amazon for a couple dollars less. This looks really slick and has good reviews on amazon. Only catch is you will have to buy your own hard drive.

So it looks nice, however, I wouldn't buy it without doing a little more research. If memory serves me correctly, the 2 rear USBs are 3.0 and the one one the side that this is replicating to three ports available in the front is only 2.0. Now 2.0 is all you need for controllers or Skylanders portal, but the hard drive specifically requires a 3.0 USB. In one of the 5 star reviews it says the hard drive isn't recognized sometimes, but they blame MS for that. I suspect they are wrong and it's their own fault for not using 3.0.

Now in those pictures, the back isn't shown, so maybe you plug the HDD into the USB 3.0 in the back, I dunno, but since the fan is back there, I doubt that theory is true. {pause} Okay, I went and looked it up. All of the ports are 3.0 on the X1 so yeah, get it. My only two questions now would be...
  1. Does the sync controller button on the side work okay through this?
  2. How loud is that fan?
I saw a controller battery charger that hooks up like that at Best Buy the other day. It has a top that opens and closes so that it just makes the Xbox One look a little wider (much like this item does).
Side port is 3.0, I have my hub for controller charger and hard drive plugged into it.

I actually like that charger and put it on 2 of my X1s.

Nope; that's not the one that I saw. The one that I saw hooks on the side of the console like the USB / HDD station linked in the OP. I'll stop by the store and take a picture of it on my way home tomorrow.

Yes it does; but it does not do so like the one in the OP so that it makes the console look longer. Like I said, I'll stop by Best Buy and snap a pic of the one I'm talking about on my way home from work tomorrow.
Or better yet; I just found a picture of it doing a quick bing search:

I didn't say that it was the greatest thing since sliced bread, just that I was reminded of it when I saw the OP. I agree that it would be much better if it included the USB pass though, but I must admit that I do like the design of extending the console a little bit, blending in, rather than just a little box that juts out of the side. Of course, I'm just using the play and charge kit myself, so it's a moot point. Nobody said that you had to like it; I just wanted to share for those that might be interested. No big deal.
