Destiny is performing spectacularly well, says Activision. The MMO-ish shooter currently has over 9.5 million registered users. Not coincidentally, work is already underway at Bungie on a sequel.

Speaking during Activision’s earnings call to investors last night, the company’s CEO Eric Hirschberg noted that 9.5m registered users doesn’t equal 9.5m sales. "There's a relationship to sell through, but it's not exact as some people have more than one profile,” he said. Regardless, it's rather a lot.

Quoting the NPD group, Hirschberg said that Destiny represents the largest new franchise launch in video game history and one of the 10 largest game launches ever in the United States.

During the call, Hirschberg later added that Bungie is "already underway on its next full game." The studio recently revealed details about Destiny's first expansion pack, called The Dark Below.

Hopefully they'll be able to give us a lot more in game story now that they're established. And I hope they beat us over the head with yearly releases.
Destiny Sequel is not surprising not because of the sales/use of the first game, but the fact that Bungie signed a 10-year/3-game deal with Activision for the "Destiny Series" to be made.

So, announcing a sequel is in the works is about as shocking as announcing the sun will rise tomorrow...
At the moment it is not known whether this will be called Destiny 2.

This isn't news, pretty sure Bungie outlined 4 games in their 10 year plan when the franchise was announced.
Gee...what happened to the 10 year 1 game plan?
I think they already have Destiny 2 already on the Destiny disk, you just have to wait for the announce and then pay for it, they will then give you a code or something and it will unlock the rest of the content on the disk...but you'll probably have to unlock the DLC on the dis first as a requirement...lol
