Phil Spencer says "consumers love the device," believes developers will continue supporting it...

"We see millions and millions of people using Kinect today. We've had over a billion voice commands used. The use of Kinect in people's homes is incredibly high. And because people are continuing to use it, it's an area we're going to continue to invest, in terms of making the experience better. And I think that makes building games in that environment even better. Consumers love the device; they love the experience. They'll buy it. They'll either buy it at launch when they buy their console, or they'll be able to buy it after the $399 console; they'll pick it up and add it on later. And we'll continue to make sure that experience is great."

I don't think the majority of new Xbox One owners will buy the Kinect
If they don't buy it. they're missing out. I was one of the people who laughed when they introduced the kinect for the 360, but I love it now. I don't use it often, but I do use it. The X1 version is much better as well. Doing free workouts 3-4 times a week with Xbox Fitness is a nice bonus.

I don't know if this is correct, but I think I saw somewhere that the Kinect (for the 360) is the best selling console peripheral ever. Quick search led me to this article.

What device sold faster after its launch than the iPad, the iPhone or the Amazon Kindle? If you guessed the Microsoft Kinect, then you're right!

Guinness World Records announced on Wednesday that the Kinect, a controller-free gaming peripheral for the Xbox 360 console, is now the "Fastest-Selling Consumer Electronics Device" on the planet.
So my point is, the execs are never going to think Kinect is a failure with those kinds of stats around.
